As I mentioned earlier this week, The Munchkin has a speech therapist that comes to the house twice a week. They spend the half hour playing with toys that she brings, and she encourages him to tell her when he wants more, to name animals, and describe what he’s doing. He usually doesn’t do any of that, but it’s still early. At most he’ll say “more” once; maybe a couple of other words, and she has to draaaaag them out of him. Progress though! She also works with him to increase strength in his mouth muscles by blowing bubbles and things like that. She thinks that some of the issues we had with him not being able to breastfeed properly might also be contributing to him not talking. As much as I don’t want to be like “Yay, my kid has weak mouth muscles!” it is nice to hear that it probably wasn’t anything I could have fixed that is causing his delay.

The Munchkin turned 26 months old today, so I figured it was time for an update on the board! As you can see, not a lot has been crossed off, and some of the items should have probably been left in tact. We know that taking off clothing was actually a lie and that he’s ready for a big boy bed. I crossed off the singing one because he yells sounds along with the opening of Yo Gabba Gabba, but yeah…probably not what they meant. He also likes arranging things in neat lines, so I decided that was a category. Which it probably isn’t. *sigh*

It’s been a while since we’ve checked in with the board. A lot has changed since then. I have been able to remove the following:
- Brushes teeth with help
- Takes apart toy & puts it back together
- Uses a spoon and fork (Although his spoon usage still needs work, it’s not a total fail any more.)
- Knows if something is wrong
- Washes & dries hands with help
- Points at picture when named (Although, he really only does this when we read “Goodnight Moon” … does it still count?)
- Feeds doll/Plays pretend
- Points to one body part when asked (head…just head.)
We’re getting there, but there is a whole bunch of new additions, now that we’ve added a few more months.
