Zap Zap Math Review & Giveaway
I was given a year’s subscription to ZapZap Math in exchange for this review. However, this did not affect my review or views of the products.
Normally over the summer, I like to spend some time with my kids reviewing academic content that they’ve worked on over the school year, as well as focus on some of their weaker areas. HOWEVER, with the crisis-schooling that we parents have had to do this spring, I feel like I’ve already done that and have no interest in doing it over the summer! As a result, I’ve been looking at digital options that can do it for me, haha. When ZapZap Math reached out to me about their math apps, I was intrigued. My kids already like math, (lucky me!) but I was interested in seeking out something that would give them a little guidance with their math activities and maybe push them further.
ZapZap Math is a collection of math apps (Grades K-6, fractions, and multiplication) that make learning math into a game. Kids get their own profile, select their own alien and house to customize, and earn coins to spend on their creatures by completing math activities. It’s pretty neat looking! Long story short, my kids love it.
How to Know Which to Choose?
With so many grade options, it can be hard to know which to download for your child. My suggestion is to look at where your child’s math skills are and what you’re looking to have them do. If their grades are on grade level, and you want them to review these skills so that they don’t loose them before moving onto their next grade, choose the grade level that they just completed. This is what I did for my middle child. He just completed second grade, so that’s the level I downloaded for him. My eldest on the other hand, is advanced in math, and just completed fourth grade, so I downloaded the fifth grade app for him. Same situation with my daughter. She is starting kindergarten in the fall, but is somewhat advanced, so I chose that for her. Sometimes, I have to explain concepts to her, but she is able to pick them up pretty quickly.
But Why Do My Kids Love it?
Like a lot of kids their ages, my kids are very motivated by *things*. These apps are perfect for that because they are almost addicted to earning coins to buy their aliens new clothes. They get new “things” and my house does not get new clutter, all while they’re learning/reviewing math concepts. School review without complaints. How can you argue with that? Plus, I let them play academic games without doing chores first, so it’s extra special to them!
But Wait, There’s More! (A Giveaway!)
