What I Wore: Simple Summer Outfit w/Pops of Red
While I haven’t really lost any of the baby weight yet, I’ve started to feel well enough to start putting effort into my outfits again… at least on most days. I might still be throwing my hair up in a sock bun most days, but baby steps here people. Luckily for me, it’s summer and summer means simple outfits!
I would like to credit regularly getting six hours or more of straight sleep thanks to my daughter finally getting the hang of sleeping at night. I now have energy most mornings! Energy is awesome, I don’t know if you know that. I was finally able to go through my closet and sort through the clothes that were hanging around in there.
Since I haven’t worked in an office since 2011, I removed any office wear that was still lingering in case I had somewhere fancy-ish to go. That has now been put in a “goal bag” since it’s all pre-baby sized and I’ll basically be working to fit back into it, hopefully around the same time I start student teaching.
I also got rid of any maternity clothes that aren’t currently in rotation, because my daughter is my last baby. (No shame in wearing maternity clothes almost three months postpartum!) Bye bye, pregnancy clothes! You were fun while you lasted! In addition to that, I put any tops and pants that are currently too small for me in the “goal bag” with the office clothes because it’s super frustrating to try and get dressed when only half of your closet fits. Lastly, I made a big pile for the charity shops of clothes that either don’t fit my body no matter what the size or that I just don’t like. Lots of buyers remorse in this pile, sigh.
But let’s talk about this outfit, shall we? It’s basically a t-shirt and shorts, but I like that it’s a little bit more put together because of the details. I like the bib area of the top and the sleeves have elastic at the ends, which make them easy to bunch up. Nothing worse than chasing kiddos around while adjusting your sleeves, right? I generally don’t like little poofs on the shoulder seams (because I’m not a child…) but I don’t mind them with this shirt. I also think the little button thing on the hem of the shorts is a nice touch too. I’ve been wearing these shorts a lot lately.
The sock bun bandanna headband is part of my summer wardrobe. If I don’t have time to wash my hair, I find that a folded bandanna hides that fact nicely, haha.
And these shoes. These shoes are made of vinyl? or something similar and I generally only break them out when it’s rainy and I can’t get away with legit rain boots. In college, I worked at a department store called Bealls, and I bought these on a whim when they went on clearance one day. I still have them because they’re pretty unique and I get compliments on them every time I wear them!
It’s been so rainy here lately. It’s insane, but my garden is loving it!
